Estreito, Brazil
As a part of the Growth Acceleration Program of the Brazilian Government, Estreito is considered to be one of Brazil`s key hydro projects. It is one of the country`s biggest investments in hydropower today and it will operate the largest Kaplan turbines ever manufactured in Brazil. Each of the eight 138.6 MW runners has an impressive diameter of 9.5 meters.
At the start of the 21st Century, the generation of electricity from renewable sources is on the rise. Hydropower is currently the only renewable energy source that can deliver power on an industrial scale at competitive prices. About a sixth of all of the power produced worldwide is generated using hydropower.

As reliable and accurate as clockwork
The individual components of large hydropower plants weigh hundreds of tons and run like clockwork. For decades, they convert the inexhaustible power of water into electricity. Their capacity is many times greater than that of coal or nuclear power stations.
Flood protection and development
Large projects have proven themselves in practice as untiring suppliers of renewable energy. They supply industry, transportation systems, communities and private households with a reliable source of electricity. With the help of dams, they provide flood protection and improve the navigability of rivers.
